Okay so there's a little fan theory to go with this. I kinda do like the concept floating around that Celestia loved Discord, or spurned him, or some such, so I took the idea of some osrt of involvement between the two of them, and adapted it to what I think happened. Also, this is only something like my 3rd or 4th time drawing Celestia so yeah. My anatomy and whatnot isn't that super. :I

Basically when Celestia was younger, she used to sneak out of the castle into the Everfree forest to play with Discord. She didn't much talk to Luna in those days, because she was younger and seemed to click better with other ponies in the castle in those days. Back then, Discord wasn't his name ( I haven't worked that part out yet lmao) and he wasn't the monstrous bad guy we know today. In fact, way back then, he was a pony. An underling, a nobody, but a pony nonetheless.

One day, Celestia's parents decided to follow her to find out where she was going, and more importantly - why. They sprung her playing with Discord and were furious. Her father turned him into a Draconequus and together with her mother, banished him from Equestria for all eternity.

As time went by, Celestia and Luna's parents eventually grew old and died, and, having grown to hate the castle that had confined her ever since her parents had caught her, Celestia chose to abandon it and forge ahead to a new era. Thus, Canterlot was built.

Time caused the ache of losing her childhood friend to slowly fade, though it never seemed to heal. Thankfully, her bond with her sister had grown.

Eventually, however, Discord returned to Equestria. Having sheltered his pain and anger, allowing it to grow, he had become a cruel and wicked beast of chaos. Knowing he was turning the land upside down (literally) Celestia had no choice but to listen to the pleas of her sister and confront him.

Seeing him again, Celestia finally realised that he was not the friend she once knew...once loved. And her heart broke. Though he was defeated, Celestia blamed Luna and all her family for her pain. Thus her relationship with her sister slowly degraded, leading to her being banished to the moon.

It was then that Celestia realised that as the ruler of Equestria, the needs of all had to come before her own needs. All before her heart.

And she wept for all that had befallen her, and for what she had inflicted on others.
